LDT Program assessment
The Learning, Design, and Technology PhD program has been a natural progression to the Masters program that I completed in the spring of 2025. I have enjoyed getting to know the faculty and their research more deeply as I begin to learn about the foundations of our field.
Overall, I find the program has provided me with a significant grounding in the theories and history of our field, which has given me a more scholarly understanding of the accomplishments and areas of opportunity for research. Through my assignments, I have received valuable feedback that has elevated my writing and gently encouraged me to continue to make connections to my field of interest. I have felt fully supported in working towards my doctorate with well-established guidelines and milestones laid out in the program handbook.
There are only two areas where I see an opportunity for the program. It would have been beneficial to have read a dissertation from the program as a class and discussed it so all first-year students could see what the end result of their work could look like. It would also have been helpful to include a brief review of current APA guidelines. While it is expected that at this level we understand citations, it could help bring up valuable discussions around plagiarism, especially now that AI is becoming a larger component of many students’ work.
What this reflection has brought to mind is how this program has made me feel not only supported in moving forward with my research, but also that it is providing a strong foundation for my current and future work in the field. I look forward to the opportunity to continue growing and developing academically under the guidance of this program’s faculty in my future coursework.
